ARTIST INFO Rickey Gonzales’s bright, colorful, stylized portraits are an affordable option for today’s art patron who wants something different from the cold, detached portraits of the past. Rickey’s portraits are warm and intimate, closing in tight on the subject to capture the nuance found in the slight curl of a lip, or glint of an eye. Rickey also works in pencil, and though these pieces are more detailed, they still focus on the curves and lines of the subject’s features rather than drowning his pieces in the dense shading that make other portraits seem dark and gloomy. Rickey is a Self-Taught artist from Chicago, IL who has been working in acrylics and selling pieces across the country for over 10 years now. He has been drawing all his life. | ||||

THINGS TO KNOW • I work directly from photos and it is up to you to provide the digital photo which you would like reproduced. When choosing a photo it is important to remember that I am working in a SQUARE format which is quite different from standard portraits. Please keep this in mind when selecting a photo for me to work from. Though I will be working from one main photo, it helps if you are able to supply additional photos of the subject(s) for reference. • All paintings are done in acrylic paint and are 10 x 10 inches wide on stretched canvas with a .75 inch deep canvas wrapped edge. Approximately .33 inches of black border is painted around each portrait, and all four sides are painted black. All paintings are coated in a protective gloss finish. • All drawings are done in Monolith Graphite pencils on 9 x 9 inch Vellum Bristol Board with the portrait itself centered at 7.5 x 7.5 inches. All drawings are coated with a protective archival spray. I DO NOT frame the portraits myself. • As you can see, I do not paint/draw realistic backgrounds. Instead I choose a color that best compliments the subjects. I also do not paint/draw intricate clothing patterns. Instead I choose the prominent color in the clothing, or a color that, again, best compliments the subject. If there are specific colors you would prefer for clothing/background, I am happy to take this into consideration and let you know if it is doable. • If you wish to have an object/prop in the foreground of the portrait, (something in the subject's hands for example) let me know and I will quote you an additional fee. PAYMENT AND EXCHANGE PROCEDURE When the painting is complete I will send you a watermarked digital image for approval. If for some reason you are unhappy with the previewed image: A) If the problem is small, I can do a touch up to meet your standards. B) If the problem is substantial then you have no obligation to buy the painting. At that point the painting is mine to keep, alter, sell or destroy as I see fit. If you approve, I will send you an invoice through PAYPAL for the price of the painting PLUS the cost of shipping and insurance through USPS priority mail. ONLY PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL WILL BE ACCEPTED. The painting will be shipped to you upon clearance of payment. If for some reason you are substantially unhappy with the finished product once you have it in your hands, you have 10 days to send it back to me at your own expense. Once I have it back in my possession I will refund THE PRICE OF THE PAINTING ONLY through Paypal. At that point the painting is mine to keep, alter, sell or destroy as I see fit. IN ANY CASE I RETAIN THE RIGHT TO POST, REPRODUCE, AND/OR DISTRIBUTE THE IMAGE IN ANY FORM FOR PROMOTIONAL OR OTHER REASONS. If you are interested in commissioning a portrait from me and agree to the above terms, click the "contact me" link above to e-mail me at dear.rickey@gmail.com and let me know. It would be best if you could attach the image(s) you wish me to work from, but is not necessary at first contact. |
